New Year at the “Snooty Fox”

The ralliers were all given a warm welcome by the rally team with mulled wine, mince pies and shortbread. Later we had delicious pie and peas in the Snooty Fox, prepared by John and Ness the owners, a quiz and laughter followed. Thursday we had bacon butties in our PJ’s, also lovely porridge! Evening entertainment with the theme Doctors and Nurses, some very dodgy medical staff were on duty that night! (see photos), Dr Feelgood (Andy ) managed to win for our table by making a bed from drinking straws. New Year’s Eve and we all enjoyed a first class meal and then some brilliant family games and welcomed in the New Year, dancing to DJ Dave Wooler. We had a fantastic few days, with excellent company, visiting Bridlington, Scarborough and Malton. Other ralliers went to York, Filey, Driffield and more, all within driving distance of the site. A great start to our rallying year, huge thanks must go to Roy, Brenda and Dan; Andy, Ged, Lucy and Joe; Steve, Marion, Gemma and Aaron for all their hard work before and during the rally.

Thank you Andy and Mavis Woodcock

Boxing Day Dip

It was a very cold Boxing Day morning but, despite the ice & snow four members of the North Yorkshire Centre took part in the annual boxing day dip at Redcar. Well done to Chloe Young, Lucy Futcher, Andy Futcher and Joy Worthington for your brave efforts in aid of charity. Rather them than me and they thoroughly deserve all the sponsorship money.

Halloween at Catterick

Boo, well it was Halloween, we were warmly greeted on Friday by Andy, Ged, Lucy, little Joe, Edward, Emma and Anya our rally marshals, after a windy tow down the A1, no it was not me!!!!! It was something to with the high pressure, never mind, on with report, drop down the legs and relax, after a Curry from the Ghurkha takeaway (I kid you not) and a night of top class entertainment (Coronation Street, Emmerdale etc) it was off to sleep eventually, because of the strong gusts of wind rocking the caravan!!! remember the high pressure.

Saturday morning weather was very good so we made the most of it and had a nice walk around the charming town that is Richmond, after some excellent fish and chips (I think the shop is called Barkers) and purchasing half the Halloween stock of the Yorkshire Trading Company it was back to the Racecourse, folks were busy dressing up the vans in a spooky fashion for the “Spooky Van” contest so we got to work with our display, we had a good laugh walking around the other vans and pinching their ideas for next year, after a flurry of face painting, quiz questions and knocks at the Caravan door from the trick or treat’ers it was off to the ball.

Blooming heck, the amount of hard work put in by the Rally Marshall team and a few more helpers really paid off as they turned an uninspiring bar into a fitting venue for any Halloween party, a really good Buffet with some witches brew, sorry pumpkin soup, and party games followed.  I was robbed of a famous victory in the Musical Chairs Fancy Dress World Final by the smallest of margins but I did not let it spoil my night.

Music was provided by DJ Andy who was as surprised as anyone when a couple of Corpses and an Undertaker and his wife started dancing the square tango to “Don’t Fear the Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult”, surely a first for North Yorkshire Centre, or maybe not?

Getting to Flag on time was a tricky affair with all that clocks going back malarkey, what time is it now Katie man, have you took the hour off, this time yesterday it was 12 o’clock ~ party nights and time warps.

The wonderfully entertaining and delightful Catterick market was drawing us over the course, “yes love”, that ornate plastic clock shaped like a shell would look lovely in the caravan???? what do you mean it does not self adjust for daylight saving in the autumn or spring, put it back and I will get on to the team of scientists at Greenwich to see what they can offer for £1.99,  further along “as many chicken feet as you can carry for no, not £30, not even £15 not even £10, £5 yes £5”, only the thought of my knees buckling and my nose weight (not that nose) kept my money in my pocket.

All too soon we were saying our goodbyes to all our friends old and new after a very enjoyable weekend, another one for the calendar next year me thinks!!

Ian, Joy, Bethany and Katie Worthington

Jervaulx Abbey

We arrived on Friday morning to be welcomed by our rally officers Mavis, Andy, Freda and Mac. We were given coffee and fresh homemade scones, jam and cream which was all very nice. The weather was lovely.

On saturday night we congregated once again and were served soup and tiger bread which went down a treat, we also enjoyed a quiz. On sunday Andy organised a walk which we missed owing to us having a ride on the vintage bus that took us up the dale to Hawes.

We all enjoyed hot dogs and a game of bingo on Wednesday evening. Thursday was flag. After which cheese and wine was served.

The area up and around Jevaulx is very good indeed. We also found time to visit Brymore ice cream parlour and yes we did indulge. I can really recommend it.

The Centre Marquee was well used along the fairy lights and Andy's fire. Thank you to all our rally officers for an excellent week we will certainly be back again all being well.

Craken House Farm - Leyburn

I would like to thank Ian and Linda Innes and Derek and Julia Gibson for an excellent weekend. This is the first time Ian and Linda have run a rally, and they did really well. They said they had enjoyed the experience. The venue was great looking out over towards Middlam Castle, the vintage bus goes from Leyburn up to Hawes which is a lovely ride out for the day. So come along all you would be Rally Officers, take the plunge as Ian and Linda did and see for yourselves how much fun you have.
Once again thank you

Judith and Alan Skerry

Eden Camp

Arrived friday night, last to arrive, but where welcomed by Paul and Maragaret Cockrill and then sited by Harry Walsh.  Although we didn't make it, there was bingo on in the huts, which we are sure  was enjoyed by all.  saturday we went round the huts to find the answers to the quiz and saturday night was the social.  games, fancy dress, bingo, sketch performed by rally marshalls and extras, made for a very enjoyable evening by all.  Participation in the fancy dress competition was a bit dissapointing, however  this didn't spoil anything. Very well done Andy, Mavis, Paul, Margaret, Harry, Angela and girls for another great year at Eden Camp, one of our favourites!!!

Andy, Allison and Lucy Newman.

RALLY OFFICERS REPORT:  AGM

It was the first time we ran the A.G.M. Rally and the first time we wished we were at home instead!  The weather was appauling with continuous rain but despite the bad weather we had an excellent turn out, with all vans sited by 8.30 p.m. on friday with the exception of a couple of vans arriving on saturday morning. We did however, like everyone else enjoy the weekend, especially the excellent social in the school hall on saturday evening.  The venue is ideal - only a short walk to the high street with its many shops, restaurants and pubs.  We were helped by Carol and Jeff (who kindly informed us that it was the first time they can ever remember it raining at an A.G.M. Rally) just our luck!  On Sunday the conditions weren't good - but in true North Yorkshire spirit everone pulled together (and pushed) until the last caravan was off the field.
We would like to thank Karen, Dave & Chloe for helping us run the rally - Carol & Jeff for all of their help - Dave Stephenson for helping site the vans.
Also a BIG thank-you to the BRINGLOE, DANKS, WORTHINGTON, FUTCHER Families & Dave Rock for staying back with us to ensure all the vans were safely off.  We promise when you book for next year we will pray a little harder for better weather!

JOHN, ROS & DANIEL LOUGHRAN.

Pickering

Following a great 9 days running Scarborough holiday rally the fun continued through to the weekend at Pickering. I never thought I would be celebrating my 16th birthday in the caravan but I have to say it was the best birthday I have had in ages. It was to my surprise that everyone seemed to already know it was my birthday – I wonder who told them – Ros!!! Throughout the day I was greeted with birthday wishes, cards and presents from all the ralliers. I was overwhelmed by how kind and generous everyone was. Little did I know at the time, while Lucy, Sian and I shopped around the nearby village, my family and friends helped to prepare a surprise party for me that night. So I’ve heard, it only started out as one gazebo but grew dramatically from the involvement, lending windbreaks and alternatives to shelter us from the rain. I have to say we did it caravan style.
The fun continued onto the Saturday with the famous ‘Crazy Bag Beetle’ courtesy of Barbara. What a night we had. A brilliant family game for young and old, which proved to be enjoyable for all involved.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the rally officers, my parents and all the other ralliers for their hard work and making my sweet 16th soooo special!!! Thank you so much!!!

Head of Steam Rally

We arrived on Friday afternoon to a warm welcome from Margaret,Paul and David. The flat field of short cut grass with gates locked at night provided us with a lovely quiet and secure venue right next door to the railway museum.
On Friday night Margaret did soup and crusty bread which was very welcome in the evening's chilly air.
Saturday came and a free guided tour of the museum gave us chance to find answers to our quiz based on steam railway history. A quick lunch and then it was off to the Civic Theatre for an enthralling 2 1/2 hour guided tour behind the scenes by the House Manager. The day was rounded off with a fun games evening.
Sunday morning saw some of us visiting the Tees Cottage Pumping Station with the original beam engine in operation.

This rally is run during Darlington Heritage Weekend and there are all sorts of free events on throughout the town to suit all tastes and ages.

Thanks again to Paul,Margaret and David and we look forward to next years rally.

Chestnut Caravan Park

This rally at Chestnut that was fine and dandy.
It is just of the A19 which for us was very handy.
The park at Thornton Le Moor is behind the pub,
which serves totally marvellous grub.
You can go shopping or stay and relax in the sun,
we played lots of games and had lots of fun.
We'd recommend this rally to all you out there,
because the rally marshalls do care.
There's Dave and his musical quiz,
bingo from Keith and crisps,
snacks a plenty, to stop you drinking on empty.

We thank you so much and enjoyed it so much
Love from the Family Futch.

Thanks again for a great weekend
Gill,Keith Ben Dave, Karen and Chloe
always a pleasure to be a part of your rallies

Oliver’s Mount Holiday Rally at Scarborough

Thanks to the Oliver’s Mount rally marshal crew and a lot of friends old and new, we have just enjoyed an absolutely lovely holiday at Scarborough, we were greeted with a warm welcome and a typical Caravan Club helping hand to help us pitch the awning from hell, never mind we are pitched and the kids are off to the “Dance Night” in the onsite facilities block, break out the comfy chairs and chill out. Plenty of fun and on site games to keep the kids and the adults entertained, did I mention that I won the Deal or no Deal £250,000 top prize (Alan the banker had me on the ropes earlier on though, with hedonistic offers of Champagne, Chocolates, Hot Dogs and Biscuits)  anyway on with the fun.

Cream Teas, Donkey Derby with real water jump (there were 3 old “Mares” in it at one point!!!!) Tote Betting shop and even a nasty Anne Robinson putting us through our paces on the weakest link (tactical voting by the ladies stopped what would have been an easy victory for the blokes) water slides and pipe games.

We even had time to fit a game of Bingo into our busy social schedule. Mind you, if you wanted peace and quiet there was plenty of that available too.

Never mind, bring on the dancing girls (however I think she left the razor at home but she made up for it with a bag of Malteasers) its Hawaiian night and “Tropical Thunder” all round.

Again thanks to the Rally Marshals John, Ros and Dan Loughran. Alan and Phyllis Gilbert. Andy, Ged, Lucy and Joe Futcher. Chris, Julie, Kelly and Sian Grey for looking after us, this rally will be going on the must do list for next year.

GOOD FUN, GOOD FRIENDS, GOOD TIME!

Ian, Joy, Bethany & Katie Worthington.

.........................................................................................................................................

We arrived at Olivers Mount to be met by John & Chris. We sited the van & quickly got sorted out. We then got to meet & greet neighbours & friends. That evening we had a quiz & bingo, didnt win.Over the next few days various contests & quizs were held also a cheese & wine party plus plenty of games for the children to play. The weather was very kind to us which added to the enjoyment of the rally.

On the last night of our stay we played Deal or no Deal. The hostess was pretty Kelly but she was relpaced by a beautiful pink haired doll called Andrea. Her beauty was enhanced by her hairy arms & legs. Perhaps a visit from Mr Gillette would have helped her looks. She really took me back to my youth serving in the RAF in Singapore in the early 60s, where a street called Boogie was well frequented by all servicemen if only to look.   To get back to deal or no Deal, two record wins were made that evening  & we hear the banker has still not recovered from  shock, get well soon Alan. A really great week of functions & games despite the rally officers not knowing the numbers attending & how many to cater for. Well done John, Roz, Andrew, Chris, Julie, Kelly, Sian, Alan, Phyllis, Alan, Andrea sorry Andy, Ged, Lucy & Joe for a superb rally.

  Joe & Jane Hussey

..........................................................................................................................................

We would like to thank all the rally officers at Olivers' Mount this year. We all had an excelent time, from children to adults, there was something for everyone. The marquee which we all used was brilliant. We enjoyed cream teas, wine and cheese evening plus a very special hawian night, the grass skirts were something to be seen (including Andy Futchers') the race night had us all cheering for our horses. We were given £2000 each and after the races finished we bid for prises with out ill gotten gains. We played the game price is right also deal or no deal which was hilarious. after coffee evening the weakest link was played, Ros taking a very good Annie Robinson. Whatch out Annie. hopefully we may have a longer rally next year so tell your friends what they have missed. The mount is only about a mile and a half from the centre of Scarborough, but you could be in the middle of the countryside with excellent views.

once again a big thankyou to you all

Judith and Alan Skerry

On behalf of myself  my wife Mary and two grandsons Ben @ Bailey we would like to thank the rally marshalls for a wonderfull  week we had

At Olivers Mount, the marshalls provided games and entertainment during the day which kept Ben @Bailey happy and also meant myself and Mary had some time to ourselves for a short while.  There was a large marquee erected so  games and a quiz were organized every evening.

Tea dancers were organized also a wine and cheese evening.

Once again thank  you all who helped run the rally looking forward to seeing you next year

FANTASTIC! What a rally,

It’s the first time we have been to Oliver’s Mount and we thoroughly enjoyed it.  We were wined, dined and enjoyed 1st. class entertainment day and night!
My father arrived first and he was sited, set up and john sorted he's faulty battery out, nothing was too much trouble.  We didn't see much of Scarborough because we didn't want to miss anything that was going on.  We will certainly be booking for next year.
Thanks again to the rally officers JOHN, ROS & DAN LOUGHRAN & their team of helpers -
ALAN, PHYLIS, CHRIS, JULIE, SIAN, KELLY, ANDY, GED, LUCY & JOE.  WELL DONE TO YOU ALL!

Joint Yorkshire Sports

What a fantastic weekend we had! Once again the North Yorkshire Centre gave their all in every event/competition. Everyone played their part from the competing to the cheering and although it was competitive everything was played in the usual sporting and friendly manner. The North Yorkshire Centre were winners of the Mike and Vicki Tripp Trophy for the most points gained in the field events, the Victrix Ludorum Trophy was awared to Scarlett Drury, we were presented with the Tug of War Shield and we only missed retaining the Henrietta Spivey Trophy by one Point.

All the families attending this rally enjoyed their weekend and I think if we could get more families to attend we would have an even better weekend. The venue is in Rufforth again next year and is very easy to get to, it is a lovely flat field, on the edge of a nice village and is within easy access of York and the Designer Outlet.

Ros, John and Daniel Loughran

MAY DAY AT SNAINTON
Thanks to John, Ros and Daniel Loughran and Andrew, Geraldine, Lucy and Joe Futcher for a super May Day Rally at Snainton.

We pitched early Friday afternoon and met up with some old friends.  It is a lovely venue with no traffic noise.  Saturday morning was bright and the sun was shinning.  Our Rally Marshalls fried bacon/sausage butties for everyone.  Delicious!  Just what we needed before walking into Snainton to catch the bus to Scarborough where the delights of a French Market, lots of shops  and all the fun of the seaside awaited us.   What more could you ask for? There was lots to do on this rally including volleyball, crazy croquet on the field and family fun quizzes which were held in the barn both Saturday and Sunday nights.  Monday came around so quickly.  Doesn't time flies  when you are having fun?  We thoroughly enjoyed this rally even though we didn't join in everything as we like to take it easy.  Thanks again.

Chris and Elaine Callaghan

Richmond Meet

Richmond rally was great rally. Friday evening we arrived at rally field with very helpful rally officers and other helpers. We put the legs down and put up the awning as the children went to play with the others as we got out the beers, soup was served as well that evening. Saturday morning was nice weather and we went for a walk into Richmond but come the afternoon; sadly the weather wasn’t too kind to us as the rain came. The quiz at the rugby club was enjoyable as the questions were not too challenging. Sunday was a little better day for the weather and we went fishing and as a result, we caught 6 trout. Later that evening we went to the rugby club yet again to socialise. Monday morning was the carnival parade in Richmond which was good and some of the floats were comical but even better, the sun was bellowing down however sadly we had to leave. Overall the rally was superbly run; the venue at the rugby club was good, and we would attend the rally again.

Can we thank everyone for making the weekend as it was, as we thoroughly enjoyed.

Pauline, Tav, Josh and Thomas Birkbeck

Ellerton Lake

We arrived on thursday evening to this gorgeous location we never knew existed. Both sets of marshalls could not do enough for you. Lot's of time was spent on the water by Ben and we felt that we had come on this rally on our own, as we never saw him!

The weather was glorious and we all  came back with a good tan. Thanks go to the marshall's for all their hard work and we hope they will be running it again next year, as we will be returning.

Thank you.
Keith, Gill, Ben and Meg Carter.

Ellerton Lake

Once again a lovely venue, gorgeous sunshine and friendly rally officers. What more could a Caravaner ask for? As we pulled up on the Tuesday we were greeted with happy smiling faces from old and new friends and rally officers. With the legs down and awning up we could finally enjoy our time. On the Wednesday night we all gathered for a game of bingo and one of John’s ‘Easy’ quizzes with it getting late we all turned in for the night ready for the walk the next day. Setting off at 1 o clock we took a steady walk to ‘The farmers arms’ in Scorton where we had a drink and meal which was organised by the lovely Karen Young. On the night we all came together for a game of bingo and ‘Shut the Box’

On the Saturday we had a Lawn darts and Quoits which was organised by Keith Carter. Hours later it was time for the nights entertainment which was family games and a Toss the caber competition which soon became the battle of the ‘best tossers’ and of course I won it for the girls. The night came to an end and so had our week in a lovely venue with gorgeous sunshine and friendly rally officers. What a great time we all had, and I am already looking forward to next years rally.

BOLTON ABBEY

I couldn’t help myself, I had to write this rhyme
Because this weekend, we had such a fabulous time
They say there’s no such thing as a “free lunch”
Well you can’t say that about the potent punch
Which was served at 8 on Friday night
And despite this, we still got up Saturday morning, nice and bright
So I could spend the morning relaxing, and free to talk
As the rest went off for a guided walk
You just could not get the smile off my face
As Bolton Abbey is such a beautiful place
The scenery is spectacular, but that’s not all
Coz, later, there was a Social at the Village Hall
The room was decorated to all things football
With flags and streamers all around the wall
In fancy dress as supporters of your favourite team
And I must complain as of “Darlington” they were very mean!!
Stan as your DJ and most congenial host
Gave of himself his absolute upmost
To keep everyone entertained is no mean fete
But there were games and challenges for us all to compete
With everyone dancing and having much fun
I have to say, it was a job very well done
All that’s left to say, which I really do mean
Is thanks to our Rally Officers, Stan June, Bernard and Jean

David Karen and Chloe Young

Thank You to Our Rally Officers

A warm welcome at Whitby West Cliff, dinner and our usually glass of wine and a walk along the cliff top. Saturday dawned to misty rain but with shops to explore it was no problem brightened up for a walk along the beach. Some people, like us, sampled the famous Magpie fish and chips or enjoyed the hospitality in the Rifle club. Sunday, the sun shone and after flag at eleven we walked along the beach to Sandsend, then all too soon it was time to head home. Our thanks to Austin & Chris Elliott and Geoff & Carol Gregory our rally officers for the weekend.
Our travels then took us to Upper Carr Caravan Site at Pickering and the luxury of electric and some hard standing. Plenty of places to visit close by: Eden Camp, Flamingo land, Dalby Forest and Pickering with shops and swimming pool. Our rally officers worked really hard for the evening’s social in the nearby pub. “Darts and Dominoes”, my darts fell out of the board but I managed with John Davies as partner to win 2 games of dominoes. Sunday was another sunny day and coffee at eleven and a chance to thank Bernard & Jean D’Ambrosio and Geoff & Carol Duke who did a brilliant job coping with a wet field and organising darts and dominoes.
We were lucky enough to be able to join the rally at Lockton near Pickering on Wednesday and a lovely time we had. If you have never been it is one to add to your “must do” list. After a wet start to Wednesday morning the weather was dry and we saw some spring sunshine. The rally marshals worked so hard to make sure everyone felt welcome. Tea and hot cross buns Wednesday, soup and bread Friday. Saturday there were bacon and sausage butties available, donations collected going to the celebration fund, and to help get rid of the calories a walk led by Chris Gray. Grand National sweep organised by Roy, think mine is still running! Games on Saturday with the “Yorkshire Chuck a Chicken” contest and “Toss the Egg”. What can we say but a very big thank you to Roy, Brenda and Daniel Stirling who were presented with a plaque to mark 5 years running the rally and Jeff, Jayne and Jemma Bringloe their first time co marshals.
Our thanks go to all those rally marshals who give up their time for our enjoyment.
Mavis & Andy Woodcock

Tees Valley Weekend

After looking forward to our first weekend away of 2010 with the North Yorkshire Centre at Hillcrest Caravan Park near Caldwell, the weather on Friday was not promising with its intermittent showers. However, the marshals made us most welcome as ever and we were soon settled and organised.

The social evening get together, although very cold, went well allowing friends old and new to chat before bedtime.
Saturday dawned with blue skies and a little breeze but cold, which is of interest as we four cyclists on our tandems needed to dress well before venturing out on our lanes ride to Barnard Castle. There we enjoyed snacks and a pleasant walk around, along with others from the weekend also enjoying a town visit and a walk or drive around the beautiful Tees Valley and River Tees area.

Evening came with lots more chat along with prize giving and announcements of the forthcoming gatherings before retirement for sleep. The skies cleared and stars heralded a cold night ahead. Surprise on Sunday morning was the mild warm dawn which definitely heralded spring at last, opportunity for more shopping and touring until departure mid-afternoon by all friends and colleagues in the brilliant sunshine.

My special thanks to marshals Dave & Andy who assisted me in sorting out the minor damage to my van incurred on my way to the event and all those in the backroom who do so much unseen. Super weekend with more to come?

Dave & Carol Hellawell
