New Year Rally 2009/2010
Come on everyone “Stand In Line”
To give thanks for the celebrations ending 2009
What a Rally, it ticked every box
On the Scarborough Road, at the Snooty Fox
With beautiful party frocks, suits and even fancy dress
With quizzes, questions and answers to guess
As the New Year charmed, we gave kisses and hugs
We received commemorative celebration mugs
We had such a great time in so many ways
On each of the rally’s 5 memorable days
All this fun though, doesn’t just occur
It’s down to the hard work put in throughout the year
So much effort and work The Sterlings have done
To ensure we all had this endless fun
They had some help, from just a few
Including rally Marshals who were brand new
Andy, Ged, Marion and Steve
They did well; you had to be there to believe
Let’s just hope they will do it again
To bring in the end of 2010
We had a fabulous time and thank you all very much, David Karen and Chloe xxxxx

The Halloween rally was once again a superb rally. Friday afternoon we arrived on the rally field to a very warm welcome from the rally officers and fellow helpers. we got set up whilst the kids met friends old and new in the park.
Saturday we all decorated our caravan HALLOWEEN style (there was some good ones). Saturday was the halloween social, it was a fantastic turn out, many dressed in their halloween costumes and some dodgey makeup from the ladies. It was later followed by a lovely supper,a dodgey quiz from Nigel and his brother (haaa), disco, costume judging and drinking :). We all enjoyed the evening and I'm sure many others did too.
Sunday was a cold and wet day but never spoilt a minute. We all arrived at coffee morning in our wellies and rain coats. The lucky van prizes where called and we were left with a option of two prizes and obviously Andy picked the dreaded BLACK SPOT!
We are very sad to hear that it was the last year for the rally officers of 9 years. They have done a brilliant job and we wish them well. Also good luck to Andy, Ged, Lucy and little Joe Futcher for next year.
Once again a big thank you to Nigel, Jayne, Lucy, Becky, Alan and Phyllis for a wonderful rally!

Jervaulx Abbey
We arrived on Friday morning to be welcomed by our early officers Mavis & Andy and Freda & Mac. We were given coffee and fresh homemade scones with jam and cream, also some homemade cake, which was all very nice. The weather was lovely.
On Saturday night we congregated once again and were served soup and tiger bread which went down a treat.
Sunday Andy organised a walk which we missed owing to us having a ride on the vintage bus that took us up the dale to Hawes.
The area up and around Jervaulx is very good indeed. we also found time to visit Brymore ice cream parlor and yes we did indulge. i cvan really recommend it.
One of our ralliers decided to get the bus to Ripon, but got on the bus on the wrong side of the road. they ended up in there own town of Richmond!! After having coffee they then got the bus to Ripon which they enjoyed, the only trouble was when the four of them returned it was pitch black, and you can imagine the party trying to find their caravans.
Wednesday we were invited to mulled wine and nibbles, which was very acceptable.
Thank you to all our rally officers for an excellent week, we will certainly be back again all being well.

CRAKEHALL (Sept Autumn Rally)
We arrived early afternoon about 1pm with the sun nice and warm, and received a very nice warm welcolme from the rally marshalls who over the weekend done a fantastic job.
We put our legs down put the awning up took the dog (Charlie)for his walk
and then settled down for a well earned cuppa and enjoyed the rest of the afternoon getting a bit more of the sun (more than we got over the summer)and waited for our friends to arrive the Rudd family, at 6pm Isobel went and bought some cakes and scones from the rally office and yes we indulged and ate some of the cake which where delicious.
We went to the local pub in Crakehall on Friday night to relax and to get to know the local residents and landlord of course and to taste the local beer Blacksheep which was very nice to say the least and then after one or two ! headed back to the van for a nightcap.
Saturday morning up with the Lark and cooked a full english breakfast, some of the children went to Lightwater valley, and then we headed to Masham fair, the day was really hot, even had shorts and shortsleave shirt on. What a wonderful day we had, looking at the animals, watching the sheep dance, nice cool ice cream, looking round the stalls, and watching the sheep dogs do their work with the geese.
do their work with the geese.
Saturday night we ended up in the barn for cheese and wine, I have never seen so much cheese in my life, but 'wow' I really enjoyed tasting the different cheeses and of course the wine. We then started on the quiz, which went on and on and on and on, but 'hey' so what it was so much fun and in a couple of hours it would be morning ha ha, then we had bingo (never won anything though), what a great night had by all.
Sunday was a dry and sunny morning, 11pm was the flag and of course I won a
prize which had the dreaded blackspot, hence me writing this report, but
even if I did not get the spot, I would have written this report as we had a
fantastic weekend, with the help of the rally marshalls, the lovely weather
and location, and most of all meeting friends that we have not seen for a
while, we left the rally at around 1pm (after thanking the marshalls for
their work) for our long journey home (it's only takes us half an hour)as we
had caravans on our own CL site ( www.springthyme.org.uk) and had to make
sure everything was ok with their weekend.
So once again I would like to thank the rally marshalls, John & Jean Davies, Les & Sylvia Fryer and Dave & Janet Routh for the wonderful weekend they put on for us and the time that they give up so we the ralliers can enjoy ourselves. Thanks a lot

Black spot report for Catterick Races 18th -20th September 2009
Thanks again for another enjoyable racing weekend. The weathermen got their forecast the wrong way round, Saturday was cloudy but dry, and we were all confident of taking the bookies to the cleaners. But before that though, the lawn darts and quoits had to be contested with the normal enthusiasm and competitiveness.
At 1.30 it was time to carry our chairs down to get a good spot near the winning post. A £2 bet on a 6 race accumulator could win you a £1000 but when our horse came 5th in the first race that was the end of that dream. Sunday was really sunny and everybody sat out and soaked up the rays because there won’t be many more opportunities. A quick nip over the course to Catterick market to stock up on the BBQ meat, then sadly hitching up to leave the rally for another year. Thanks go once again to the rally officers Nigel, Jayne, Lucy and Becky and Alan and Phyllis. It is a great venue. See you next year.

Easby (Kildale Show) September 4th – 6th
We arrived at Easby Grange Farm on Friday morning in the worst rain that we have seen for ages – thank heavens the rally signs were bright orange – or we would have missed them! The windscreen washers couldn’t shift the rain quickly enough!
Now at this point we should explain that under any other circumstances a drop of rain isn’t usually a problem – BUT when you’ve been on the road since 3am, you are in an area of the country that you don’t know and your following a map and rally directions it all adds to the ‘atmosphere’!!
To add to that we got stuck trying to get on the peg and needed the able assistance of Brian and Jack to help get us pitched. Once finally sited - we slept!!!
We awoke mid afternoon to sunshine and the beautiful views of Roseberry Topping and Captain Cook’s monument – wow!
Saturday is the Kildale Show, not too far from the rally field – a wonderful local show, full of interesting competitions, exhibits and people, a very traditional country show. The tea tent serves a lovely cuppa too! Sunday morning was Coffee time and we finally had a chance to meet and chat with others and be very warmly welcomed by Brian and Joan, Shirley and John and Robert, the farm owner. We even won a prize in the lucky van draw!
The Lion. Blakey Ridge. September 7th – 11th
We moved on to The Lion Inn on Blakey Ridge and in our opinion had the best pitch on the field – the views are BREATHTAKING.
We were so lucky with the weather, one morning of fog and one night of high, van rocking winds and by day sunshine. We have seen the photos in the Inn and have heard the stories regarding how quickly the weather changes, and how bad it can be, but for all of that this site is rustically fabulous. The sheep stare at you, falcons fly over you and the rabbit holes are there to catch you out!
We all battened down the hatches on Wednesday and Thursday as we were informed that the Air Ambulance/ Mountain Rescue helicopter would be landing close to the rally on an exercise, it did, but it wasn’t quite the Sea King we were expecting – we didn’t get blown away! Good photo opportunity though! (Shame they didn’t stay for coffee!).
We went for the meal that was arranged for anyone that wanted to attend on the Wednesday evening. Huge portions of fabulous food – no wonder the Inn is always busy. Thursday morning was the last coffee time and again we won a lucky van prize, I don’t think it was fixed! Friday morning was moving on day, difficult to leave such a lovely place.
If you haven’t ever attended either of these rallies, you should give them a try –
We enjoyed them so much and still have lots to see and do we’ve booked (with the same pitch!) for next year! Thank you to everyone that we met for making us so welcome. We didn’t want to leave you and come home….

We received a warm welcome despite the weather being cool and drizzly.
After getting set up we ventured into Helmsley for a Cream Tea and a browse around the shops. Richard and James said I seem to find more shops each time I visit.
When arriving back on the Rally Field we had a wander in the lovely Farm Shop & Tea Room. Roy the Rally Marshall then came around and said that due to the unpredictable weather, he had arranged with the Farmer to use the Barn for a get together on the Friday evening.
Quite a lot of the Ralliers descended on the Barn for a Beetle Drive and a Family Quiz. We would especially like to thank Daniel for the excellent quiz which he not only devised himself, but he asked the questions and gave the answers. The other Martins were there usual competitive selves with Carol (The Favourite Sister-in-Law/Auntie), winning the Beetle Drive. By the way we still haven't had a chocolate Carol.
We woke on Saturday to a warmer brighter day and we ventured out on our bikes. Some of the others were brave enough to visit the Open Air Swimming Pool, go walking, or just browse around Helmsley.
Saturday Evening we gathered around the flag for coffee/tea and biscuits. The Adult Quiz was won again by the other Martins and our Nephew Craig didn't let them down either by winning the word search.
Oh and by the way we won a lucky van prize, a lovely half dozen eggs - the black spot variety. No hard feeling though, they were much appreciated.
It was then Back to the Barn for Bingo and Play Your Cards Right which again got a lot of ralliers out of their vans to enjoy a relaxed and friendly get together.
Sunday was a free day to do as you pleased and we just relaxed.
We would really like to thank Brenda, Roy, and Daniel. Along with Geoff, Jayne & Gemma and all the others who made this a lovely weekend.
Beadlam Grange is a lovely rally and we would certainly recommend it to anyone.
Thanks again for all your efforts.

PICKERING RALLY
This year we were lucky enough to get a cancellation on your rally at Pickering. Paul was at work most of the weekend and we needed to go somewhere close to home and this venue doesn’t get much closer – 0.5 mile!!
Paul took the van when the rally opened and I “walked” to the rally from home. If you have never attended this rally before it is a venue not to be missed. It is situated close to the town centre and the North York Moors Railway steam trains cross the bottom of the field. After Paul left for work I had a long walk around Pickering (for a change) and then spent the rest of the evening with the rally marshals and their friends.
On Saturday morning, whilst Paul was in bed, I visited Pickering Castle for the first time in 30 years – it hasn’t changed! I then had another walk around Pickering – try explaining to your neighbours you meet in the street that you aren’t actually at home but staying in your caravan.
On Saturday evening, we had a game of Beetle in a form that I’ve never played before. This was the first time that I’d played with a partner and you swopped goodies from a carrier bag. Once I got used to the idea it was great fun and proved to be a very funny evening. Ask anyone who attended about the “glue on” nails!!
Sunday morning was the usual coffee morning and flag and a time to say thank you for such an enjoyable time. This was a weekend which proved that you didn’t have to be far from home to enjoy yourself. It meant that we could actually be tourists in our own town for a change.
The worst part of the weekend was that I didn’t have time to have my usual sleep going home on the Sunday afternoon – we didn’t even get into fourth gear!!
Our extra special thanks must go to John, Ross and Daniel Loughran and Alan, Barbara, Abigail, Catherine, Melissa and Jemima Judd for all their hard work and hospitality during the weekend and thank you to all our new friends which we made that weekend.
Best wishes to the North Yorkshire Centre

THORNTON LE ’MOOR (behind the Black Swan pub)
We arrived early afternoon to a very warm and friendly welcome. The caravans were sited with perfection – I think Keith and Dave had measured between the pitch markers with precision. It was the first time we had visited this lovely village so we had a wander and returned in time to watch the last caravan arrive. The rally officers had arranged a special priced meal & menu for the pub, and asked everyone if they would like them to book a table for them – NOTHING WAS TOO MUCH TROUBLE! On Saturday the weather was glorious so most of the kids and adults on the rally enjoyed a game of volleyball (last practice before Northern centres).
On Saturday evening the rally officers had arranged a social for us - a quiz (with Chris Tarrant aka Dave) and bingo (with a professional caller Keith who spent more time picking up bingo balls) complete with nibbles and home-made quiche! We had a really good NIGHT but had to call it a DAY when it got too dark even using the cap-lamps that had been provided to finish the quiz.
We would highly recommend this rally and look forward to the next one.
BIG thanks to the CARTER & YOUNG TEAM.

JOINT YORKSHIRE SPORTS – DONCASTER
The weather was kind to us for once, the venue was brilliant with use of facilities including showers & toilets and a licenced BAR & a social on Saturday evening.
However, the highlight of the weekend has got to be despite only having eleven North Yorkshire vans in attendance and with only seven participating families we managed to make up teams and covered all of the events & competitions. The nifty nine kids we had between us managed to out-run, out-jump & out-play throughout the competitions. They won the netball, the relay, many races, were runners up in the volley ball & football and managed between them to WIN the HENRIETTA SPIVEY CUP awarded to the centre with the most points for childrens sports – WELL DONE you were all a credit to the NORTH YORKSHIRE CENTRE! The VICTOR LADOURUM CUP was retained once again by our centre and was awarded jointly to Matthew Dakin & Joseph from East Yorkshire.
The adults gave their all & played football, volley ball, won the lawn darts, were runners up in the quoits, & boules. & were only a couple of points from being the overall winners. The fun run on Sunday morning was once again won by Daniel Loughran despite tough competition. Thanks must go to Bernard our sports officer and to Keith & Gill for keeping us organised!
SO WELL DONE THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN: Bernard & Jean , the Carters, Youngs, Grays, Hutchinsons, Dakins & Loughran families.

Robin Hood's Bay
Our grandchildren look forward so much to this child friendly rally and this year certainly didn't let them down. We all had a great time. Weather was perfect and although I am not a sand lover, to see the children play with a polystyrene fish and chip container on the beach and in the streams for 2 hours was brilliant. It cost nothing and was a very easy way of having lots of fun.
Robin Hoods Bay is an easy walk from the rally field either over the fields or via the road and down Bay Bank. Be prepared for the bank as it's a 1:4.
This venue is beautiful and our rally officers could not have been more hospitable From entering the rally field to leaving there was a sense of friendliness. Very sensibly 'the flag' was held at 6pm on the Saturday evening leaving Sunday free for more fun. Flag was followed by a communal BBQ with no pressure to join in if you were not a BBQer.
The children loved the opportunity to paint plaster of paris figures and models. The choice was endless and the Rally Officers girls very kindly guided the younger ones with their 'works of art'.
Many thanks to all of the team for a brilliant weekend

Ripon RUFC-
The week end started off well with every one putting legs down and setting up etc, we were one of the last. The weather on the Friday was over cast but still warm, most of the adults went that night for a drink at the cricket club. Saturday started well, over cast for a short time, a good number of us entered the lawn darts and quoits. Good fun for all! The weather in the afternoon stayed favourable so enjoyed a walk into Ripon. The evening turned from cloud to drizzle. The raffle and book stall did exceptionally well. Thanks to all who supported us. On the Sunday at the flag the raffle was drawn and it turned out that the teenagers had made £140 for our charities. The rally closed with glorious sunshine around 6 o’clock, last few leaving about 5. I think everyone had a good time. Thanks to Merve and Janet Griffiths, Dave and Debbie Gregory, and everyone who helped and joined in the competitions.

Crakehall
A new venue for our centre “Summer Ball” and it can only be voted an outstanding success. We arrived Friday evening to a warm welcome from all the rally marshalls. It was a lovely summer evening so it was very nice to bbq and eat outside. Plenty of places nearby to fill everyone’s time on Saturday. Saturday evening and we were all dressed up for the short walk to the village hall. The evening was started by a super buffet provided by Gordon Ramsay alias Alan Gilbert and his team of helpers. A variety of dance music provided very efficiently by Simon (Alan’s grandson), the dance floor busy for the remainder of the evening. Sunday was a relaxing day, coffee as usual at eleven o’clock and time to sit in the sun. Here’s to next year. Thank you to Alan, Phyllis, Les, Judy, Neill and Margaret for all your hard work.
Redcar
A return to Redcar Rugby Club for our children’s sports. Time to wander round the shops in Redcar on Saturday morning or for some a trip to the races. The weather stayed dry for most of the children’s sports, everyone entering into the event with enthusiasm and a fun time was had by all. The teenagers worked hard with a variety of stalls and cream teas to raise money for their charities. Sunday and the trophy and medal presentation, the children delighted their efforts were rewarded. A good weekend and our thanks to Derek, Julia, Keith, Gill and Ben. Thanks also to Karen, Dave, Chloe and the teenagers and their parents for all their hard work. Make a date in your diary for next year.
Thank you from Mavis and Andy Woodcock

Ellerton Lake, Scorton May 28th – 31st
with John, Ros & Daniel -
Roy, Brenda & Daniel
What an excellent venue once again. The days were free to do as you pleased. There were plenty of places to visit nearby, or instead stay on site, relax and enjoy the tranquil picturesque lake and scenery together with the glorious weather. Alternatively for the more sporty - water activities on the lake.
Hot dogs were served Friday evening at the rally officers, giving every one chance to chat and socialise. The family entertainment on Saturday evening ‘The Price Is Right’ proved to be great fun allowing everybody to get involved, either by audience participation or actually being a contestant. This followed by Toss the Caber competition provided a brilliant social evening which was most appreciated by all. Many thanks go to all the hard work of the rally officers. Sunday was a great chance to visit Catterick market.
To conclude, this was a superb, full, fun pact long weekend and we would recommend this rally most highly for next year.

Stokesley Quiet Weekend 10th Year May 29th-31st
This venue as anyone who has been will tell you is a great venue, within walking distance of the town, with it's shops, eating places and pubs, and lots of great places to walk right on the doorstep.
On Friday evening after settling in there was a get together to celebrate Alan, Hilda, Kevin, Margaret and Daniels 10th year as Rally Officers for this Rally, a cake had been made for the occasion, and a glass (or two) of wine available to toast the occasion.
Saturday weather was fantastic and a lazy day for most, Saturday evening a get together where most people enjoyed a BBQ was followed by Bingo and a most entertaining quiz. After which we went back to our van and had a couple of drinks and a chat with friends.
Sunday dawned only too quickly but another glorious day. Flag was held as usual, after which cards thanking Alan, Hilda, Kevin, Margaret and Daniel for the past 10 years of organising this rally were handed over, one of which had been signed by everyone attending the Rally. A few tears were shed as not only was this the 10th year but it will be the last time Alan and Hilda will be Rally Officers due to Alan's ill health.
I and i am sure everyone who knows Alan and Hilda wish them both the very best for the future.
THANKS for the last 10 years to you all, for the effort and work you have put in, it REALLY IS APPRECIATED

Caldwell 15th – 17th May
Caldwell rally went ahead this weekend despite its lack of support.
It is a really excellent rally site though and one that needs keeping.
We were made very welcome by our hosts and our pitch enjoyed wonderful views of the South Durham and North Yorkshire countryside from our front window.
The surrounding countryside has so much to offer with some lovely walks along the upper Tees Valley which is only 1 mile away.
If the weather turns there are plenty of things to do with Barnard Castle and the Bowes museum only ten miles away. You are only 10 miles from Richmond as well. There is also Whorlton Lido 5 miles west which is a good family picnic spot.
We had to go to Catterick market and pick up some supplies from Ropers which is 15 miles to the south.
If you have a special occasion to enjoy there are three pub restaurants within a two mile radius.
So Caldwell really has a lot to offer.

Spalding Tulip Festival - 7 Day Rally
We arrived at North Yorkshire's Spalding Rally and were received with a warm welcome by the North Yorkshire Centre's very good Rally Officers. The field was like a lawn.
Friday was a free day so we toured round the local beautifully decorated churches, in the evening the Rally Officers put on a quiz in the club. Saturday we went to Spalding to see the excellently decorated floats and the Parade. Sunday evening there was cheese and wine in the club followed by dancing. Monday evening we were invited into the club to play carpet bowls with the locals, sorry to say we lost. On Tuesday we went into the club and had a sausage and mash supper, the men had 3 sausages and the ladies had 2 followed by apple pie or trifle and to complete the evening we had a good dance to our rally marshal's music. Wednesday was the marshals day off which we think they greatly deserved.
The rally closed on Thursday and we must say it was a fantastic rally well done North Yorkshire, Alan, Phyllis, Les and Judy.

Darlington Railway Museum
We arrived on Friday night, last again I might add! Looking around the lovely site and a warm welcome by our hosts Paul & Margaret. We met at the Rally Marshall's caravan for hot soup and crusty bread, which was a welcome sight as we hadn't had any chance for any tea. We slept so well Friday night, even though apparently there was a suburb thunderstorm, but as me and Joe slept the parents were cowering round a bottle or two!!!! A rallying family who live minutes away came a calling and whisked us away for the day. Unfortunately leaving the parents alone, time to wander to Morrisons and drink endless cups of coffee waiting for us to return. Meeting up further in the afternoon for lunch and then to find the wonderus delights of Darlington,we had an excellent tour guide in Karen Young. After coffee on Sunday, which we to find that Joe and I had won the competitions, and the parents to win the Adult competition (fix I here you shout). Mum is mad on James Bond so that helped. We went to the Head of Steam which we enjoyed. The venue was excellent and so close to town, pity that there was only eight vans but it was exclusive and we felt spoilt.
Thanks again Paul & Margaret well done coping with us all. Many thanks to Karen, Dave & Chloe for the peace you gave me and Joe from the parents. It was really good.

Thornton Lodge, Easingwold
First of all we would like to congratulate the rally officers on the excellent signing to the rally field which made our journey so much easier. On arrival we were given a pitch overlooking the lake where we were able to watch some of the ralliers fishing. John Davies won the prize for catching the largest Trout. Apart from numerous geese and a couple of Moor Hens we were pleased to hear Tawny Owls hooting and to see Sky Larks which are not very common these days. This is certainly a rally to look forward to in future.

Snainton (1st May to 4th May)
We are new to caravanning and this was our first rally, not really knowing what to expect, a great time was had by all of us.
We arrived early friday morning, there was already a few vans setting up but we were quickly dealt with by the rally marshalls who were friendly and well organised. It was also the the first time we had put the full awning up and to there credit I think they only watched us for 5 minutes whilst we made out attempts to put it up, after 10 minutes of there help it was up and secured and I thank them again for there efforts, especially with regards to taking it down seeing as the wind had become very strong, I might have still been hanging onto the end of it if not.
This organisation was to continue throughout the weekend as they had organised everything, we were treated to bacon/sausage sarnies on the saturday morning washed down with hot drinks, then there was volleyball and crazy croquet competitions throughout the afternoon. They had also arranged a bingo and quiz night for Saturday and Sunday night in the land owners barn which was entertaining.
On the Saturday morning we were greeted by Andy Woodcock, the treasurer and a committee member of the North Yorkshire Section, again he was very friendly and made you feel really welcome, he made the mistake to ask me if I had any questions feel free to ask, well I had a right old list of questions that I fired at him. We then went to Levisham to see the new steam engine the "Tornado", lucky we did as it broke down saturday night so was not running on the sunday. We went for tea at the Denison Arms in West Ayton on saturday night, having been there before we had already booked a few days before as the food is fantastic and servings are plentiful so your chances of walking in and getting a table anything after 5pm are slim.
On the sunday we went into Scarborough to Peasome Park which was a nice walk, we also took the little one on the train from Peasome to Scalby mills, not quite the 25 minute ride it promised but was nice 5 minute ride all the same. We got back on site for a half hour sit down before attending the flag a 5pm. During the flag we was presented with a first rally plaque and Kai won a prize for his drawing competition entry, things were going well as we were then the first van pulled out for the lucky van, I had heard mention a black spot prize but was not sure of its significance until I picked it straight out, my joy was short lived once I found out what it meant.
This was a lovely site, level ground with lovely views that was close to Pickering and Scarborough aswell as the Dalby forest. We had good weather on the Saturday and Sunday which was spoilt a bit on the Monday as we had some rain and wind. I did learn to keep an ear out for the weather forecasts as when I woke Monday morning the first thing I notice was that most of the vans had taken down there awnings. Will remember that for next time.
We really enjoyed all aspects of this rally and would recomend it to anyone, thanks again to everyone involved, we hope to attend more of these rallies and be back next year.

3rd -5th April 2009 at Upper Carr CP, Nr Pickering
Arrived on Friday afternoon and were greeted by Geoff and Bernard and asked if we were gypsies- we said we were!! A lovely flat site with electric if you wanted it and luxuries....like a toilet block with showers!
The Black Bull Pub was just over the road, so not far to stagger back to the caravan. We were made to feel welcome in the pub and met friends. A game of darts had been organised with a difference and fun to take part, without been too serious. A great way to get people socialising.
We visited Malton and Pickering on Saturday which were both close by.
Darts and Dominoes was organised on Saturday Evening in the Pub again for anyone to take part.
We didn't receive the dreaded black spot... instead we were the 12th unlucky person to be pulled out for the lucky van prize!! All in all a very good weekend with good weather.
Thanks to Carol & Geoff, Jean & Bernard for organising a super weekend.

HILLSIDE CP, KNAYTON. February 6TH-8TH.
We arrived on site just after lunch and we quickly had everything set up. It was dry but very cold however with the unusual luxury of electric heating (super pitches) we were soon warm and snug. Caught up with some friends and then had a short walk before tea. It is in a beautiful setting surrounded by low hills which looked even more wonderful with the snow on them.
Next day we went to Thirsk then Northallerton however some hardy souls stayed on site and used the conditions to enjoy some sledging with a variety of “sledges”, good fun was had by all.
Sunday was dry and bright and a few degrees warmer for coffee morning. Lunch then another short walk before we packed up to leave.
Jeff, Jayne and Jemma thank you very much for a really good start to this years rallying and hope to return next year

Winter Walk 16th January 2009
Sunday morning dawned bright, dry and sunny with a light cold wind. A group of about 35, plus 1 dog gathered at the Cod Beck reservoir car park above the lovely village of Osmotherly. We set off over the footbridge and up a steep bank out on to the moor top; nice easy walking, not too muddy! Lovely views across to Thirsk, then we dropped down again to Upper Carr water works and a well earned coffee stop, out of the wind and in the sunshine, we could easily forget it was January. Next came a steep walk up a farm road then a climb back up the top via a very muddy track. There were lots of laughs along the way as we slithered and slipped, Lucy Futcher almost fell in it while little brother Joe hitched a ride on Dad’s shoulders. We were soon back down to the reservoir and enjoyed an almost flat walk back to the car park, once we had all scrambled across the beck. A welcome drink was had in the Blacksmiths Arms in Swainby before heading home. An enjoyable day out. Our thanks go to Mike and Jacquie Horner assisted by Ken and Margaret McKie on their 1st winter walk.

New Year Rally 2008/9
Hurry up, Hurry up, you just can’t dally
You have to be quick to get on the New Year Rally
If you don’t make the “List”, you will surely cry
And it won’t take you long to realise why
It’s the Marshals, Daniel Ros John, Daniel Brenda and Roy
Who do so much to make your week an absolute joy
They organise everything, there’s just so much to do
And the Snooty Fox venue, provides a beautiful view
It’s easy to see from their efforts that their number one aim
Is to ensure we all enjoy every day just the same
At the Vicars and Tarts Night, we had so much fun
Blokes dressed as women, with monks vicars even a nun
Every evening into the pub we would go
Playing Mr and Mrs, Play your Cards Right, enjoying a disco
With Ros as Ann Robinson equipped with quips and the wink
There was the Caravan Ralliers version of the Weakest Link
Following that we had a fantastic Race Night
And a spectacular version of the Price is Right
There was a bit of controversy when someone played a gag
When they stole the coveted “North Yorkshire” Flag
But it was ok, it was put back in its place
So now you won’t have the Committees’ WRATH to face
Leaving the most important thing to do
Which is to say a MASSIVE THANK YOU

NEW YEAR RALLY
A brilliant end to 2008 and an even better start to 2009. We arrived at the Snooty Fox to a welcome from the rally marshals and punch and shortbread. The rally entertainment started with an evening in the pub with fun games and delicious pie and peas. Tuesday morning was bacon butties in our PJ’s where a new rallier by the name of Gloria Futcher put in a brief appearance. This was followed by a short walk. In the evening it was “Vicars and Tart’s” race night. Gloria Futcher was upstaged by another new rallier Andrea Woodcock . New Year’s Eve provided a chance to get all dressed up for a lovely meal provided by John and Ness from the Snooty Fox. The tables were beautifully laid out with place names, crackers etc. After the meal and a quick bit of furniture removal, we danced our way into 2009 with music from DJ Dave (Wooler). New Year’s Day arrived with time to recover for flag and more entertainment to round off a brilliant rally.
We understand that some person or persons removed a valuable item from the flag pole but left their underwear behind! DCI Stirling was soon on the case and the stolen item was secretly returned under cover of darkness. He is now awaiting DNA results and scanning close circuit TV footage from the Snooty Fox and is confident the culprit will be identified and brought to justice!!
Our thanks go to Roy, Brenda, Dan, John, Ros and Dan for all their hard work before, during and after the rally. Also thanks to all those who helped along the way.
